HISTORY
This dock was designed to handle the movement of coal for the State Railways service. On September 7, 1910, the law that allocated funds for the construction of the ports of Valparaíso and San Antonio was approved.
The construction was in charge of the English firm S. Pearson & Son in 1912,2 suffering a delay of almost a year due to the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. The structure is 230 meters long and 30 meters wide, having half of its extension built in wood and the other in concrete.
In 1980 it became the property of Empresa Portuaria de Chile and since 1998 it became an asset of Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso. It was also used for the attention of warehouses during the fruit and vegetable season. The earthquake that affected the area in 1985 left a large part of the port in poor condition, the Barón pier being the first to be restored since 1990.
In 2002 the place was converted into a pedestrian walkway, keeping two of the old cranes. Currently it is frequently used for artistic events of a massive nature. In 2004, the company Puerto Olímpico Valparaíso was awarded the operation of the dry dock located on the pier.
